Police deny receiving report of kidney sales in Abuja

The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory has denied receiving a report on the alleged sale of kidneys in the Nyanya area of Abuja, as being circulated on social media.

The Command Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

Adeh said the clarification followed publications being circulated on social media alleging that the command had confirmed reports that young people residing around Nyanya in the FCT had sold their kidneys for money.

She said the publications also alleged that an agent in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was purchasing the kidneys from the young people.

“The Police Command in the FCT wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature.

“No statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the command,” she said.

Adeh urged the public to disregard the publication and refrain from circulating unverified information capable of causing unnecessary fear, panic and apprehension among residents.

She enjoined anyone with information regarding the alleged human organ trafficking or any other security concern within the FCT to promptly report to the nearest police station or to the command through the following phone numbers: 07038979348 or 08028940883.
